Classical Ballet, Modern, Contemporary and Tap Dance Classes for Children
Northern Dance Academy offer a wide range of dance classes including Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Modern & Tap dance classes for children age 4 years upwards. We offer ISTD Imperial Ballet, Modern & Tap syllabus classes for those students wanting to take examinations as well as creative Contemporary classes for children from the age of 6 years. Our teachers facilitate each child's learning style to ensure they are getting the most from their training whilst ensuring the element of fun is maintained. Please have a read through our

ISTD Pre-Primary Ballet
The ISTD Pre-Primary Ballet class at NDA is the entry class exam for girls and boys from the age of 4 years. It introduces the fundamentals of the Imperial Classical Ballet syllabus in an enjoyable and inclusive environment. Learning focuses on integrating basic ballet technique through character work, mine and a basic understanding of rhythmic awareness. All exercises are age appropriate allowing students to have fun.
ISTD Primary Ballet
The ISTD Primary Ballet class at NDA is for children from the age of 6 years allowing each child to develop a fundamental understanding of Classical Ballet in a fun yet more structured environment. This class enables each child to build self confidence whilst nurturing their basic ballet technique. Learning focuses on classical movement, terminology and a basic understanding of timing and musicality.
ISTD Grade 1 - 6 Ballet
Our ISTD Imperial Ballet classes encourage students to learn Ballet technique and to develop their physical, musical and coordination skills. Those students taking examinations develop fundamental classical skills at lower grades which prepare for more complex movements as they progress through the ISTD pathway.
Youth Pointe Class
Most students studying Classical Ballet at NDA will have the opportunity to progress onto Pointe work. Those wishing to do this class must have sufficient strength in the feet, ankles and core as well as a significant amount of previous classical experience. There is no specific set age for this class however, each student must have a strong and correct understanding of technique to practise Pointe work safely.
Junior Contemporary
Age 6 - 9 years
Our Junior Contemporary classes are an exciting and fun way to learn contemporary dance technique. In these classes, students will develop a basic understanding of contemporary movement and choreography. This lively and engaging class is designed to increase creativity, confidence & an awareness of basic technique. Most importantly, this class has a sense of fun and enjoyment for those who attend.
Youth Contemporary
Age 10 - 13 years & Age 13-16 years
We offer two Youth Contemporary classes at NDA which are based on developing a strong technique, an exploration of induvial creativity & performance skills. This is taught through a variety of methods including set exercises and movement phrases as well as opportunities for individual creative input. Students explore Contemporary dance principles such as alignment, fall and recovery as well as encouraged to nurture their own creative style.
ISTD Tap Classes
Primary - Grade 6
Northern Dance Academy now offer ISTD Tap classes for those who would like to take examinations in this genre. Our timetable offers a range of grades from Primary Tap through to Advanced 2 Tap.
